UK sudoku championship launched in association with No 1 Japanese lager

In February 2006 someone will be crowned the first UK Sudoku Champion in the Asahi Pure Logic Sudoku Championship.

Japan's leading beer producer is looking for Graet Britain's top Sudokulist in a UK-wide competition. However, it is not just the inaugural UK championship title that is up for grabs, there is also a star prize of an all-expenses-paid trip to Japan.

Famed as the home of sudoku, Japan offers visitors huge variety; ranging from modern cities like Tokyo, to ancient Shinto temples and natural wonders such as Mount Fuji and the hot springs of Beppu. Whether you prefer cutting-edge city bars or wish to sample authentic sushi and a traditional tea ceremony, Japan has something for everyone.

The championship finals will be held in London in February and to qualify, entrants must complete a puzzle that can be found at Asahi Beer. Puzzles in the competition are being set by Michael Mepham, the Daily Telegraph's Sudoku expert and the competition will be run under International Sudoku Organisation rules.

Asahi's involvement with sudoku is also helping the puzzle to break away from its reputation as a lone pursuit. Asahi has produced a kit for pubs across the country to enable them to adapt sudoku as a team event, introducing sudoku rounds into pub quizzes or even hosting entire sudoku evenings.

If you want the landlord of your local to get involved, then tell them to call the Asahi Hotline on 01622 604604 to register for a free pack.
The Asahi Pure Logic Sudoku Championship is open to all UK residents over the age of 18.
